Food lovers in Bogota, listen up because you can’t possibly go past Loon Lio’s Bogota Food Safari while you’re in the capital. I was lucky enough to join one of the food tours while I was in Bogota recently and, boy, did we come across some delicious food. From fish soup and arepas, to spiky fruit and desserts, by the end of the tour I was ready for a sleep in a hammock in the sun somewhere. Take a look at the video, or click here for more information.
Warning: Don’t watch the following video on an empty stomach!

Hi Sarepa,
Really enjoying your site and am learning so much.
I’m travelling to Columbia in about 2 months with my boyfriend.
I’m a vegetarian, but as I research I see that it will be difficult to avoid eating animals in South America.
I think I read somewhere that “vegetarian” isn’t even a part of the vernacular haha.
From what you’ve seen, is it possible to be veg in SA?
Appreciate the help,
Mary
Hi Mary,
Thanks so much for getting in touch and I’m so happy to hear that you’ll be travelling around Colombia. Generally, Colombians are staunch carnivores, so you are no doubt going to be offered meat dishes by people you meet along the way. And saying no to those dishes is really the most difficult part of being a vegetarian while travelling around the country. But, actually, there are some many dishes or at least elements of dishes that are vegetarian, and such a huuuuuge variety of fruit and vegetables, that you seriously won’t have much trouble at all. And depending on the cities you’ll be visiting, there are actually quite a lot of vegetarian options, too.
These two posts might come in handy: 🙂

Thank you so much, Sarepa!
I’m going into the trip open-minded and am *considering* eating some meat dishes along the way.
Your tips definitely put me at ease.
Love your blog,
Mary
